The Napier Sabre had been a complex engine, does anyone have any details on the engine? The more proziac questions such as the dry weight of the engine may be available from museum statistics, though after visiting Kew Public Records Office, it appears that all records relating to both the Napier Sabre and build of the Typhoon at the the Sunbury works ( which was just down the road from Kew) have either been lost or destroyed. It would be interesting to find out how much the Sabre cost to build, before and after Bristol became involved in the manufacture of sleeve valves for the said engine...... Has any information such as this been passed down to members perhaps?
You are correct we (The Trust) do not have much detail on the Sabre as at the end of WWII the Ministry instructed that all drawing tooling etc was to be transported to to Rolls Royce.
So far we have not found any information on build costs,I believe that the dry Weight in 1938 was 2360lb not sure if that changed of the years.
Sorry for the delay in replying
